| Wednesdayite ballot is a landslide for Sheard | ||||
| Category: Wednesdayite News | Author: JamesHargreaves | |||||
| Following a 14 day voting period culminating in a formal meeting last night, Wednesdayite members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of the 2 Resolutions in relation to the sale of Wednesdayite's 10.07% shareholding in Sheffield Wednesday Plc to Geoff Sheard. The first Resolution involved a rule change to remove the block on selling the shares and required 75% of those voting to vote in favour. This was carried with 97.4% voting for the change. Only 20 members voted against this Resolution. The second Resolution was to consider the specific bid by Geoff Sheard and was carried by a significant margin with 92.1% of members voting in favour. 61 members voted against the sale. The turnout was 77.7%. The Wednesdayite Board had previously recommended to members to vote in favour of both Resolutions and Darryl Keys, Chairman stated 'We are delighted that our members have voted in great numbers on such an important issue and emphatically supported our recommendation. I hope this sends a resounding message to the club, its Directors and the fan base at large that Wednesdayite has never been a stumbling block to any investor and that we have always recognised that at the appropriate time our shareholding had to play its part in securing a better and more successful future for the club.' Wednesdayite felt they were unfairly blamed for the collapse of the Gregg deal a year ago after they had never been contacted by the bidder or anyone at the club throughout those takeover negotiations and last night's vote suggests that Gregg might well have enjoyed similar support if, like Sheard, he had approached Wednesdayite and held discussions as part of his negotiation process. The Sheard offer, valuing Wednesdayite's shares at a little over £1million is over three times that originally offered by former Chairman Dave Allen and which was declined by Wednesdayite in early 2006. That decision in retrospect now appears to have been an astute one. Wednesdayite will now formally write to Sheard advising him of the outcome of the ballot and to see if he still wishes to proceed with the acquisition of Wednesdayite's shares in the light of progress made with the other main shareholders and his stated intention to acquire an initial 29.9% holding. | |||||
