Wednesdayite have today given the required 14 days notice to members for a Special General Meeting to be held on 6 August 2008 at 7.30pm at the Niagara Sports & Social Club, Niagara Road, Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield S6 1LU.

The purpose of the meeting is to consider Resolutions relating to the formal bid for Wednesdayite's shareholding in Sheffield Wednesday Plc. Ballot forms and background documentation have been sent to all members eligible to vote and we urge all such members to consider the matter very carefully and to participate in the ballot by voting. Full details relating to our recommendation are included with the Notice documentation.

We would remind members who have previously elected to receive communications by email to ensure they check any spam folders   - the Notice was released at 7am to such members earlier today. The Notice was sent by 1st class mail yesterday to all other members. Any full adult member who does not receive their ballot documentation within 48 hours should contact enquiries@wednesdayite.com.

Mel Sterland book to launch - your invitation to signing

Category:   Wednesdayite News | Author:   JamesHargreaves

Ever a colourful character, former Sheffield Wednesday player Mel Sterland gives an anticipated insight into his life and career in a new book, 'Boozing, Betting and Brawling', released by Green Umbrella publishing in August.

Sterland lays down his story, from his days as Full-Back under Charlton, Wilkinson and Atkinson right up to a police charge (later dropped) relating to handling stolen goods following a Post Office raid and the subsequent depression which led to alchohol and gambling problems.

The book, with a foreword from Howard Wilkinson, is co-written by accomplished Sheffield journalist Nick Johnson - who previously brought us the excellent Peter Swan autobiography 'Setting the Record Straight'.

'Boozing, Betting and Brawling' is released on 10th August 2008 at all major bookstores, however Mel invites you to meet him at one of his signing events where he will be on hand to autograph your book and for a quick chat (time permitting!). Signings are to be held at Sheffield Wednesday Football Club on Tuesday 12th August (5:00pm - 6:30pm), Meadowhall WH Smiths on Wednesday 3rd September (12:30pm - 2:00pm) or at Orchard Square Waterstones on Saturday 18th October (2:00pm - 4:00pm).

Another way to get your hands on the book is to check back to Wednesdayite.com closer to release day, where we will be reviewing the book and holding a competition to win a copy!

If you want your vote to count

Category:   Wednesdayite News | Author:   JamesHargreaves

Wednesdayite would like to remind all full members that their vote will only be eligible if on the closing of any ballot their memberships are paid fully up to date.

Our records show that we have 59 full members who are currently in renewal periods who are at risk of their votes being excluded in any ballot. We would therefore urge these members to extend their memberships at the earliest opportunity.

Ballot results will be formed from the number of eligable votes received, not calculated against total membership numbers.
