Directors

Wednesdayite's day to day business is conducted by our volunteer Board of Directors, who are a mixture of those elected by our Members and those who have been co-opted due to their particular skills and expertise in various fields.

The Directors serve at the pleasure of members to carry out the mission statement of the Society, but also have important operational roles within the running of the Society's activities - whether that be the away coach travel, the Wednesdayite Lounge or the website.

When asked ‘What was your first ever Wednesday match?’ most people can point to some distant game, against some obscure opponent and sometimes even remember the score... whereas I haven’t a clue.

Some may say thats a sign of my rapidly advancing years, I might be inclined to agree – however in reality its down to the fact that I’ve been a regular at Hillsborough since well before I could walk.

Gary Bannister. Fondly remembered by most Wednesdayites who saw him play, but to me the catalyst for a lifetime's love affair with teams of eleven men in blue and white stripes.

On a Tuesday night in 1983, Gary netted twice in a 4-2 League Cup victory over the mighty Darlington, and my joy was confined only by my Dad forceably holding me down, seeing as we were sitting in the stands at Feethams at the time and the threat of getting a kicking by the home fans was very much at the front of his mind.

Paul Holmes, Wednesdayite Finance DirectorDirectors

I was born in Walkley in 1966, just in time to see our FA cup run that year and am a lifelong supporter of the club.

I have been on the board of the society since 2003 during my time seeing many ups and downs with the club and the Society.

Since the day my Dad, Royston, first took me to a game I’ve been a Wednesdayite. From then on, like every fan, my dream was to play for the Owls. But sadly as I got older, well to be honest not that much older, I realised I didn’t have what it takes.

Obviously the next best thing was to keep watching Wednesday and that’s what I’ve been doing through thick and thin, for almost 30 years now. But the desire to be a part of the club I love has never waned.

I have been watching the Owls for over fifty years, having been introduced to Hillsborough by my father and grandfather in the days of Derek Dooley, Albert Quixall and Alan Finney.

In the early years, I had a regular spot on the Kop just behind the goal. I was standing there when the Owls were the first team to beat Spurs in the season that they won the double and the Owls finished as runners up in Division 1. I was there in 1962 when Pele made his first visit to Hillsborough and put a penalty past Ron Springett...

I was born in Worksop in 1954, educated in Worksop and left school to do an NCB apprenticeship as an electrician.  I left the Coal industry in 1985 and have been driving instructing for the last 24 years.

I attended my first SWFC game in the early 60’s against Blackburn Rovers and the Owls won 4-0 and the bug hit home and the rest is history.

Andrew Atterbury, Company SecretarySecretary

My name is Andrew Atterbury and I’ve been a Wednesday fan for the past 20 years, although somewhat unusually the rest of my family are Barnsley fans.

The first match I saw as an Owls fan was the famous ’91 league cup final whilst living abroad, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
