Nigel Short, Wednesdayite ChairmanDirectors
When asked ‘What was your first ever Wednesday match?’ most people can point to some distant game, against some obscure opponent and sometimes even remember the score... whereas I haven’t a clue.

Some may say thats a sign of my rapidly advancing years, I might be inclined to agree – however in reality its down to the fact that I’ve been a regular at Hillsborough since well before I could walk.
Apart from a brief 4 year sabbatical when my Dad took us all to Bahrain in the late 70s (forcing my biggest Wednesday regret – missing the Boxing Day Massacre) I’ve not really missed many Wednesday games ever since.  My kids too have followed in that tradition, both being carried to their first games and attending week in, week out ever since. You could say Wednesday is a family tradition – others may say curse...

My Grandad, George Percival, worked at the club for well over 40 years, matchday commissionaire on the Players Entrance and also the Directors Entrance as the years went by. He missed family weddings for Wednesday games, ran the Swallownest Supporters Club, travelled length and breadth of the country watching us and lived and breathed it. If I can be half as good a Wednesdayite as he was – I will die a happy man!

I’ve joined the Wednesdayite Board in the hope that I can apply some of the Sales and Marketing skills I’ve acquired over the years in helping to deliver a much bigger membership – which is more representative of views held by a broad range of fans. I firmly believe Wednesdayite isn’t the problem its been made out to be by former regimes, it can be a fantastically positive organisation that can really help the club bring together the fanbase and ‘Move Forward Together’.

Over the years I’ve been involved heavily with the Shareholders Association too, and have often raised funds for other initiatives. If you’ve ever passed a flag over your head, or been given free blue and white balloons to blow up, I’ve usually been involved in that at some point.

So, a very brief potted history – I’m more than happy to sit down a go into as much detail as you like about Wednesday and Wednesdayite and my aims and ambitions for my new role as a Wednesdayite director.
