OWLS BLOG: SWFC vs WALSALL MATCH BLOG

    MATCH BLOG

For the 2011-12 season we welcome a brand new match blogger to Wednesdayite.com who will be blogging on all of the Owls home games throughout the season.

For the Owls v Walsall League One game at Hillsborough on Tuesday March 20th 2012, Sheridan Scott (Shez) reports back with his view of the game.

"Tonight's visitors at Hillsborough were Walsall as Wednesday looked to gain revenge after losing out last time when the two sides met. With the possibility of gaining an automatic spot very much on the cards once again, a good win for the Owls will put even poor pressure on the out-of-form Blades as they travel to Notts County.

The first half started with neither side able to gain control of the match with Wednesday going closest when Michail Antonio unleashed a thunderbolt from 30 yards out which smashed the crossbar.

Wednesday went close again with Antonio again hitting the crossbar from an acute angle. Walsall were kept quiet and Wednesday looked comfortable. The first half ended 0-0."

AS YOU WERE AFTER TWO ROUNDS OF MATCHES

Saturday was a great day for Wednesday. Tuesday night was less so - the upshot is that all the top five took four points from the two matches, leaving us exactly as we were this time last week.

It's clear that there was a momentum shift over the last couple of weeks, and maybe that has taken a tiny shift back - however the boost from snatching what could be a crucial point at the death even in a disappointing result against Walsall may keep the Owls going at this crucial stage - it's on to Leyton Orient with three points very much needed to take second spot and put the pressure back on the Blunts in their local derby against hapless Chesterfield on Wednesday night.

Whatever the result, it's fair to say that there are a couple of twists and turns in this tale yet - it's not going to be over any time soon! Exciting though, isn't it?

    OWLS STRENGTHEN WITH PEDIGREE PAIR

Late in the day as the loan window deadline loomed, Dave Jones and Paul Aldridge were able to conclude what could be two very important bits of business.

Bringing in Burnley regular winger Keith Treacy and Premiership talent in the form of striker Nile Ranger is exactly the sort of extra quality that could make the difference between now and the end of the season. If these boys can bring their quality to bear it will bring ample dividend, especially as it seems we have two striker in Lowe and Madine who are coming back into form, and considerable evidence of how effective a quality wide man running at defenders can be in this division, with teams putting two and three men on the flying Michail Antonio.

Here's hoping that Keith and Nile have the same effect in the short time they'll be with us!

    NO WEEKLY NEXT WEEK

Vice Chair Eddie is swanning off to France to ski around wearing his Owls shirt and trying to strike up conversation with random locals along the lines of "SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY? TU AIME CHRIS WADDLE? WADDLE? CHRIS WADDLE? WADDLE? WAAAAAADDLE!" As a result, there won't be a Weekly appearing in your inbox in seven days. Normal service will be resumed for Easter Weekend!
