WEDNESDAYITE WEEKLY

B2BW - A WEEK AND DAY AWAY!

BIKE RIDE LATEST

Our intrepid team of cyclists met the world's media this week to officially launch our Brentford To Bluebell Wood charity bike ride.

Hirsty was in fine form and bullish about the squad's ability to complete the ride, even though most of those taking part were only just about able to drag themselves to the photocall after the horrific training rides Batty has sent them on...

Amongst the jollity and anticipation, however, there was a sobering moment for Wednesdayite Chairman Nigel, who picks up the story:

"I'd had quite a busy morning, my son Dan was with me and we were chatting away as we arrived at Bluebell Wood... as we drove through the gate we had to pass a hearse which had pulled up outside the main doors... For me - everything came crashing into a reality that I had briefly considered but not really dwelled upon.

The aching muscles from the weekend's training ride seemed irrelevant for me at that point. I became more focused on what we have to do and hopefully on how much we can raise as a team.

The work that Bluebell Wood do is so incredibly important - and I had no idea to what extent it reaches out into our communities. There is so much more than just the palliative care they give to those who need it most.

I would urge you all to have a good read of the website. Think of your own kids, family and friends who have kids. I have 2 of my own and I know it really touched Daniel."

Please also take the time to watch this short and touching video highlighting what Bluebell Wood means:

OWLS BLOG: AUTOMATIC PROMOTION - CURSES & ANGELS

FAN BLOG

As the season draws to it's conclusion Owls blogger, Ann Barker, blogs about the curses and angels of automatic promotion. Ann works in Bradford and has always supported the mighty Owls. She has a commercial pilots licence, two Springer Spaniels who go wild if you say 'Sheffield Wednesday' and she loves Chris Waddle with all her heart.

"I'm a teacher (keep reading, I know it's a terrible start but it gets better), it's the Easter holidays, so what more is there to do except to worry about not getting automatic promotion? But its not just about getting automatic promotion anymore is it? It's so much more important than that, it's about pride, dignity and showing everyone once and for all that this city is ours.

So I have been thinking (worrying) about Sheffield Wednesday probably a bit too much lately, until yesterday that is, when an angel (again, please keep reading it gets better) came to my door. It wasn't a white dainty feather winged angel that I may have preferred, but nevertheless it was an angel, who told me in no uncertain terms that Sheffield Wednesday will get promoted. The 'angel' was an unshaven white van man who was delivering a parcel and passed the information onto me when he spotted the Sheffield Wednesday dog bowl next to the front door, but it was still extremely reassuring and made me feel very happy.

The problem we have now is that automatic is not in our hands anymore. We can win all our remaining games and we all know that we can, which means that our fate is in the hands of the enemy and all we can do is sit back and hope they slip up (like they usually do!). I am putting all my faith in MK dons who will have everything to play for and who could do us the favour we are all desperate for. Although I can't help imagining how if we'd beaten them 10-0 in January we wouldn't be in this mess."

RICKY PREVIEWS CARLISLE

MATCH PREVIEW

With Wednesday having blinked at Colchester and handed a huge advantage to our city neighbours, tomorrow's match couldn't be more crucial!

Wednesdayite.com match previewer Ricky Charlesworth previews the Owls vs Carlisle League One game which takes place on Saturday 21st April 2012 with a 3pm kick off.

WEDNESDAY v CARLISLE
Hillsborough
Saturday April 21st 3pm

LOWDOWN
Wednesday will look for a return to winning ways, as well as a favourable result from Buckinghamshire, as the race for promotion continues on Saturday afternoon. The Owls host Carlisle United, who themselves need a favourable outcome if they are to reach the play-offs, looking to extend their unbeaten run as well as hoping that Milton Keynes' Dons can spring a surprise win against our city rivals.

Dave Jones' men slipped up against Colchester last weekend and they know that anything other than three points against Carlisle could have fatal consequences for their automatic promotion hopes. The Cumbrians arrive in S6 in patchy form, without a goal in over five hours and a point adrift of the final play-off place. Greg Abbott's men haven't won since a 2-1 victory over Huddersfield last month but are still in with a shout of the play-offs. It looks likely that the team that finishes sixth will be from Carlisle, Notts County, Stevenage or Brentford.

OWLS NEED SNOOKERS TO OVERHAUL GRUNTERS

Despite another goal from one-man team Miguel Llera, the Owls were frustrated by Colchester at the weekend - the game finishing all square at 1-1 and handing a huge boost to that lot across the city, who came back from a goal down to finish off Orient 3-1.

With the gap now up to four points, Wednesday are now relying on the Blunts dropping points in two of their remaining three matches - however, with their next two games being away at MK Dons and at home to Stevenage, it's not inconceivable. We need Agent Wilson to complete his mission - or it's the playoffs for the mighty Owls!

EDDIE FORMS PART OF NEW PODCAST TEAM

This week saw the launch of a brand new Owls podcast, as The Wednesday Week sprung into life courtesy of four SWFC fans who fancied spouting off about all things Wednesday!

Regular readers will be familiar with Lord Hillsborough, whose blogs on the Wednesdayite website are legendary. He was joined by Owls Alive's Beastie (he of the incredible and epic match reports), Dan Fudge of the Fudge & Dave comedy podcast, and Wednesdayite's own vice-chair Eddie.

The format is very much of a freeform discussion on topics of interest to Owls everywhere - and being fully interactive we're welcoming comments, questions, suggestions and even callers to the show - check out @TWWpodcast on Twitter.

But most importantly, have a gander at the first ever show - simply click here to check it out on YouTube!
