WEDNESDAYITE WEEKLY

IT'S UP FOR GRABS NOW!

EDDIE'S BLOG

Anyone else getting a teeny bit nervous and excited yet?

For any Wednesday fan who was there on Saturday, the moment that Michail Antonio curled the ball into the corner of the net with only seconds remaining to save our season will live in the memory forever. Just remembering the scenes that followed sends shivers down the spine - and there can't have been a single Owl who wasn't walking a little taller on the way home - especially as Agent Wilson had successfully completed part one of his penultimate mission!

So here we go - another Saturday and another must-win game against a team who will be no less difficult to put away than Carlisle were. There will be 1700 Owls (plus I'm sure several hundred putting on comedy Cockney accents in the home end) roaring the boys on to victory - a victory that would put all the pressure on a Blunts side that kick off at 5:20 without Ched, without Hoskins, without the focus and togetherness that we have, and with that overwhelming worry that they are on a knife-edge of throwing it all away to the team that they hate and fear most. Wonderful, isn't it?

If they pull together and do the business against a Stevenage side who are flying at the moment and looking to put their playoff presence beyond doubt, then I for one will give them grudging respect. Our season doesn't rest on this, though - we would take our spirit and our form into the playoffs and can be confident of promotion come what may. I wonder how many Blunts truly believe that their playoff hoodoo won't hit again should they let us in at the death?

No matter, it's been truly an incredible season - the best I can remember since the heady days of Big Ron, and I've never been so proud to be a Wednesdayite. Whatever the outcome, the memories that this season has brought will bring joy for the rest of our lives.

But until this season is in the books, we're singing with one voice - we won't let Dave Jones and his team down, and we know they won't let us down either. UP THE OWLS.

B2BW - IT'S HERE!

CHARITY BIKE RIDE

And so, the training is over. The muscles are flexing, the chains oiled and the seats reasonably comfortable.

Wednesdayite's team of cyclists head down to Brentford tomorrow with the prospect of their gruelling four-day ride back to Sheffield weighing on their minds as heavily as the fortunes of the Owls.

Brentford FC - as befits their status as a true community club with fan ownership - have been incredibly accommodating to our team, allowing the cyclists to parade around the pitch at half-time to raise awareness for the cause, and have even laid on an energy-giving tea for the lads before they set off!

So if you're heading down to London for the match, come and see us outside the ground and send your best wishes to the squad as they make their final preparations to embark on the first leg to Borehamwood before dusk.

There's also a special mention for Blades fan Graham Dabell, who has arranged to distribute collection buckets for Bluebell Wood at all the home pubs before our rivals' crunch clash with Stevenage on Saturday. Sincere thanks from Wednesdayite to you Graham - you've shown that not all Blades are cut from the same cloth (see right). Thanks in advance to every SUFC fan who helps us in raising money for this amazing cause!

You can follow the progress of the team at our new interactive map - simply click below! We'll be uploading photos, blogs and news as the riders make their way up country!

Donate to the campaign now via text - simply send the message:

Owls91 £5 to 70070 to donate £5, or send:

As the bike ride gets nearer - and for the duration of the four days in the saddle, we will be posting all the pics, videos, blogs and banter from the challenge - both on wednesdayite.com but also on Twitter @wednesdayite using the hashtag #B2BW and on Facebook at facebook.com/wednesdayite - make sure you get involved and join in with what promises to be a week of absolute carnage and hilarity!

OWLS BLOG: TENSE, NERVOUS, BUT EXCITING

FAN BLOG

We welcome back Glyn Thornhill to Wednesdayite.com for his third appearance of the season as an Owls Blogger.

We'll hand straight over to Glyn, who's getting unbelievably excited as the season comes to a close!

"If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too"

In the words of Rudyard Kipling - quoted above - last Saturday's injury time winner perfectly summed up the situation. In injury time less than sixty seconds remaining and up pops Antonio with a delightful goal to send Hillsborough into rapturous celebration.

Sheffield Wednesday players failed to make the team of the season for League One. But. hey what do those experts know. Prior to the Carlisle game I spent all week before listening to 'pundits' tell me it was a defining weekend - with the football league show sat at MK Dons for the feature game... the dark side were going to get promoted...

Even the Football League Show informed us they are 2 points in front. No Steve Claridge I think you will see it's one point , but its like two with the goal difference '??? What ???"

OWLS BLOG: A BRIDGE TOO FAR?

FAN BLOG

Owls Blogger and Sky Sports fan zone SWFC blogger Carl Mullooly returns to Wednesdayite.com with his blog for April and talks about the incredible season end in prospect.

"Three games to go in the season and we are reliant on other teams if we want to secure automatic promotion. It's a bitter pill to swallow with our neighbours sitting in pole position, but you have to give credit where it is due. Despite intense pressure from us winning some difficult games, often played before United, they have matched or bettered our results and unfortunately Ched Evans continued his prolific goal scoring form until recent events took over.

It's not over yet but it's a tall order for the owls to finish second. Much as I hope we can finish second, maybe getting any disappointment out of the way now is better, as it's less than a week between the final league game and the start of the play offs. I think had we'd had Dave Jones in charge for the whole season; we would be in a better position.

Megson did a decent job and it's largely down to him we are where we are today, but the 5 point gap and extra games played seems like it has been too much despite the excellent form under the new manager. We have played better football recently. The thing I like is that we have played 2 out and out attacking wingers in Jermaine Johnson and Michail Antonio. Megson would often play a central midfielder in the wide role, which strengthens the defence but reduces the attacking options. Loan signing Keith Treacy has shown glimpses of what he can do when he has appeared from the bench, and with a little more match practice, could be a key figure if we enter the League One lottery."

INCREDIBLE PROSPECT FOR WYCOMBE MATCH

As mentioned above, the results on Saturday gave Wednesdayites renewed optimism that we really could overhaul the Blunts and take second place at the end of the season.

It seems that the feelgood factor has hit in spades this week, as at time of writing there are fewer than 2,000 tickets left on sale for the Wycombe match - a full week away from the game itself!

Additionally, with Wycombe initially being given only the North West corner, we have the tantalising prospect of Owls fans on all four sides of Hillsborough for the first time in many years - should Wycombe sell more than their initial allocation of 470 seats, they get the West Lower, but otherwise it's going to be blue and white all around!

It truly is a testement to the MASSIVE support that Wednesday can call upon - now let's hope that it's also the cue for a MASSIVE promotion party!

If you've not got your tickets, you'd better move quick...

SUFC - SHAMEFUL

It would be remiss of us not to mention the continued circus surrounding the Ched Evans affair. While the convicted rapist languishes in jail pending an appeal that seems baffling to some observers, his club have yet to release any statement either condemning his actions, suspending him, or - surely the only acceptable course of action - sacking him immediately.

While they immediately suspended a reserve team player for abusive messages about the victim on Twitter, incredibly SUFC have taken no action against the rapist himself, instead posted statements from Evans' legal team that stress Ched's belief in his innocence, further fuelling the disgraceful 'Free Ched' and 'Justice For Ched' campaigns that over 3,000 Blades have signed up to and which have led to multiple arrests as the victim was named on social networking sites.

While we know that every club has its share of knuckle-headed imbeciles, the stance taken by SUFC has done nothing to change the rapidly-spreading opinion in the football world that the club and its fans are institutionally classless, blinkered simpletons who will sacrifice every shred of human decency in the name of footballing success.

At Wednesdayite we pride ourselves on being inclusive, family-friendly and representative of the moral compass of Wednesday fans - and were it an Owls player who had been convicted of such a vile offence, we would not accept such a stance taken by our club. Some things are more important than football.
