First of all let me initially thank John for his long and successful service as a Director and for his resilience in the face of adversity. It was a great honour to serve as a Director alongside John and indeed all of you guys. As mentioned to you previously Paul, I too wish to tender my resignation from the Board of Wednesdayite Ltd.
My period on the Board also witnessed some turbulent times but nothing to compare to those very early days of the trust when you guys were fighting to protect the very existence of the Club. Your efforts were awesome and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your work in the face of such hostility at that delicate time. I attended my first match at Hillsborough on November 12th, 1960. I can still remember elements of the match; there were over 56,000 present and the atmosphere and the smell of pipe smoke left a huge impression. We beat the great double winning Spurs side 2-1, I was mesmerised that day and have been addicted ever since! So your work to protect the Club from the abyss during that dark period will live forever in my heart.
I first became a Director when Darryl was Chairman and he was such an astute leader and warm spirited guy. I served as Vice Chairman alongside John and that too was a great honour because he was a man of such integrity. As a Season Ticket holder in the North Stand it is wonderful that I still see John regularly and am also still in regular contact with Darryl.
But like John, I too must put on record my appreciation of the huge amount of time, effort and work that you, Paul, and Jeff, as the two most active directors, have committed to the organisation especially over the last couple of years as Wednesdayite Ltd salvaged what remained of the SWSS and maintained the services to its members and the SWFC community. Consequently I would like to reiterate the wise and true words of John: "Without the efforts of the two of you, it would have been impossible for the organisation to continue. The results you have achieved for Wednesdayite Ltd have been outstanding." I totally concur.
So let me wish you, Paul, and Jeff the very best of luck for yourselves, your families and Wednesdayite Ltd over the coming year and in the long term.
Let's hope we conclude the season with a very special celebration!
Kindest regards, Peter
