What a strange season this has been, as I write it is not yet over. I hope you are able to follow the games on either ifollow or the radio.

Its disappointing to see we are not finishing the season with the full squad with a few players being released and others not signing extensions to their contracts. The manager will have the task of rebuilding for next season.

As yet we do not know when or in what manner the 2020/21 season will start, I anticipate it will be after the Winter before we are able to return to watching football in stadia.

Your Wednesdayite membership for 2019/20 is due to expire on 31 July 2020 but as we are unable to offer you the usual match day facilities we are offering to renew your membership
for a further 12 months for just a contribution of just £1.80 to cover the cost of posting the new membership card to you. Its quick and simple to renew - Just click here

We are not doing the usual excellent value members pack this season but may look at having some special gifts for collection once we can return to Hillsborough and travelling to away games.

We have continued to support local groups and charities since the season was suspended.
As you may be aware at the end of August 2019 we were hit with an unexpected demand for backdated business rates on our old car park for just over £27,000.00, despite appealing and trying to negotiate with Officers of Sheffield City Council, they issued us with notice of intended court proceedings whilst our application for discretionary relief was being considered. Due to this we were forced to pay £19,861.64 at the end of October to avoid court action. Once paid the Council then rejected our application for discretionary relief in December. We then started  a social media campaign to get this decision changed and fortunately councillors  Maz Iqbal and Bob Jackson got on our side and agreed we should get at least the 80% discretionary relief , but sort to persuade council officers to give us a full refund, following a couple of meetings with them , the last one taking place just before lockdown it was negotiated for us to get 100% relief, we agreed we would use the refund to support local groups and charities.

    We have helped the following:
Handsworth Junior Sporting club - £1,000.00 towards repairing perimeter fencing following vandalism
Watercliffe Meadow school - £500.00 towards SWFC fan and teacher Mark Bebbington's fundraising marathon walk to provide food boxes in the Shirecliffe area.
Sheffield Wednesday Ladies Football club - £2,020.00 towards new kit for over 220 girls and ladies who play for the club
Cavendish Cancer Care - £450.00 as a matched funding to a virtual bucket collection to replace the actual one they would have had at Hillsborough over Easter
Weston Park Hospital Charity - £1,125.00 to purchase tablet devices to enable patients to keep in touch with families
Friends of Charlton Brook - £350.00 to purchase a new strimmer.
Cavandish Cancer Care  - £987.00 to pay for additional software needed to keep in touch and communicate with their service users during the pandemic,
Derek Dooley FC - £999.83 to pay for training equipment for use by over 60 players in their ability counts squads
Friends of Wardsend Cemetery - £1,008.00 towards a bench and information board
Archer Project - £1,000.00 to help them recover after their fire
These are all in addition to the £5,000.00 we gave to Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme before we were hit with the business rates demand.
If you have any charity or local group you would like to nominate for a grant of up-to £1,000.00, please let me know or get them to contact us.

Once we can return to watching live football we will be working hard to make sure that the core activities are in place for its return:-
    * Match day permit holder care park
    * Away Coach travel - discounts for members, as in previous seasons we undertake to take at least one coach to ALL away league and cup games once we are allowed to.
    * the Matchday Lounge at the Niagara - free entry for members
    * Free coaching by Tricky Wingers for local primary schools, this will recommence once the schools allow

Our 7 year sponsorship deal , paid seven years ago, of The Wednesday Cricket Club runs until after their 200 year anniversary in 2020. They were hoping to have a special event and special merchandise to celebrate this and we had offered to assist them in this.

In addition, all members will be entered for our free draw with prizes being to attend the SWFC Sponsors event as the guest of our sponsored player , this was due to take place at Easter but was postponed, once it is re-arranged we will make a random draw.

Thanks for your support, lets hope we retain our status as Championship club this season and rebuild in plenty of time to make a challenge in the 2020/21 season.

I look forward to seeing many of you at home and away games once we are allowed, in the meantime take care, keep safe and keep well
    Up the Owls!

    Yours sincerely
