Peter Shaw is the author of these notes and his latest column from the home game V Norwich is published below:-

This afternoon we are delighted to welcome the fans of The Canaries, high flying Norwich City. The beautiful city of Norwich has had a long association with canaries owing to its 15th and 16th century links to Flemish weavers who had imported the birds to the Low Countries from the Dutch colonies in the Caribbean. And of course their nickname has led to their famous green and yellow strip. The Club have had fluctuating fortunes in recent times, illustrated perfectly when they became the first team to win a major honour (the League Cup in 1985) and be relegated in the same season. But they have had other notable successes and in 1993 became the first British side to beat Bayern Munich in the Olympic Stadium, winning 2-1. Our current assistant manager, John Deehan is a former player and manager of Norwich.
The home victory over Norwich on the final day of the season in 1982 was poignant and memorable. Despite a 2-1 victory with goals from Andy McCulloch and Gary Bannister, Norwich pipped us to promotion in the inaugural season for 3 points for a win. If 2 points for a win had still existed we would have been promoted instead!
Another memorable match was on a balmyWednesday evening on September 1st, 1993. Still suffering from a "Cup Final hangover" we had yet to win a game when we played the Canaries at Hillsborough. A goal-less first half, then the match exploded after the break. Goals from Bart-Williams, Bright and Sinton gave us a 3-2 advantage going into injury time. Unfortunately, substitute Watson failed to keep the ball, Norwich broke down our right with Nilsson upfield and equalised to make it 3-3 with the last kick of the game!
