Wednesdayite have a page in the official match day programme and you can read our column there first.

Peter Shaw is the author of these notes and his latest column from the home game V Rotherham United is published below:-

This afternoon we welcome the supporters of Rotherham United to Hillsborough. Of all the teams with the name "United" in their name, it is probably more appropriate for 'The Millers' than anyone else; they were formed as a result of a merger in 1925, unifying Rotherham County and Rotherham Town under a 'United' umbrella. They had a relatively inauspicious beginning but in 1996 Rotherham United made their first trip to Wembley Stadium, beating Shrewsbury Town 2–1 to win the Football League Trophy with two goals from ex-Owl, Nigel Jemson, securing victory.
Whilst still adjusting to life in the Championship, the Millers have had some impressive results so far and I expect a real close contest today.

MEMORABLE MATCHES

In terms of disappointment the most memorable for me was losing 2-1 at home to The Millers at Hillsborough in 2002. Watching the game I sensed it was inevitable that ex-Owl and Wednesday fan, Richie Barker, would score a late winner for the visitors in front of the Kop and he duly obliged in the 90th minute! In terms of pleasure it was memorable under Jack Charlton to watch local lad Charlie Williamson and Andy McCulloch score the goals in a 2-0 home victory against The Millers on a Tuesday night at Hillsborough in early September, 1981, to send us to the top of the table. Let's hope for a similar result this afternoon.
