Wednesdayite have a page in the official match day programme and you can read our column there first.

Peter Shaw is the author of these notes and his latest column from the home game V Cardiff City is published below:-

This afternoon we welcome the fans of The Bluebirds, Cardiff City. They hold the distinction of being the only team outside England to have won the F.A. Cup when they beat Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley in 1927. The match is famous for the 'howler' by the Arsenal goalkeeper Dan Lewis, who let a low tame shot squirm out of his arms into the net, later blaming his new "greasy" jersey! It was also the first ever Cup Final to be broadcast by BBC Radio.
The Club was formed in 1899, initially as Riverside A.F.C. Since 1908 Cardiff's home colours were blue and white (hence their nickname) but in 2012 the owner, Vincent Tan, changed it to red. This caused massive unrest and controversy as tradition and history are of huge importance to supporters. It takes a brave man to admit his mistakes and all credit must go to the owner, who last month reversed his decision, agreeing for the home strip to revert to Blue. He issued the wise words: "To paraphrase John F. Kennedy, 'Let us never compromise out of fear. But let us never fear to compromise.'" Well said Mr. Chairman! I am sure Cardiff City will learn from this episode and go from strength to strength, hopefully AFTER today of course.

COMMON LINKS

Today we welcome back Kenwyne Jones who is a bit of a legend amongst Wednesday fans. In the 2004-05 season Kenwyne played 7 games for us and scored 7 goals. His highly successful stint helped turn round our season and his goals were influential in getting us into the playoffs and eventually winning promotion. Thanks for the memories Kenwyne!
One player who represented both us and today's opponents is a long term friend and colleague of mine, Walter Keith Thomas. Keith is now 85 and was signed from Oswestry Town in September, 1950. He made his debut against Wolves in March, 1951 in the top league and was an ever present in the first couple of months of the 51-52 season when Wednesday won promotion back to the top flight. Keith left to play for Cardiff City in July, 1952. Today he lives in Condover, Shrewsbury and enjoys remarkable health. He still plays golf twice weekly and in his 50s he played off a handicap of 2. He confided in me last month that in the last year his game had deteriorated and he now plays off 15. Still better though than many players 60 years younger!
