For the 2011-12 season we welcome a brand new match blogger to Wednesdayite.com who will be blogging on all of the Owls home games throughout the season.

For the Owls v Charlton Athletic League One game at Hillsborough on Saturday January 14th 2012, Sheridan Scott (Shez) reports back with his view of the game.

Owls 0-1 Chartlon Athletic

"Charlton Athletic were the visitors to hillsborough today for a 3rd versus 1st clash. Wednesday remain unbeaten at home and look to build on that record with a win against the league leaders today, in front of a packed Hillsborough.

The first half started slow and neither side could gain any real hold on the match. As the half went on both sides came close with Madine and Marshall looking lively in the Wednesday attack.

The deadlock was broken when Reda Johnson tackled clumsy on the edge of the area and Johnnie Jackson converted the free-kick expertly.

Wednesday continued to press with the backing of the Hillsborough faithful and went close on numerous occasions. Wednesday had the ball in the back of the net when Madine finished well after Lines chipped just inside the area but it was ruled out for offside.

Charlton went into the break with a 1 goal lead and Wednesday had it all to do if they were going to turn the game on its head.

The second half started pretty much the same with both sides attacking. The more the half went on the more it started to feel as if it wasn't going to be Wednesday's day, a number of performances from the players backed that theory up.

Weaver made an excellent one on one save from Bradley Wright-Phillips with Weaver the only player that deserves a mention. Wednesday hit the post in the dieing seconds but it was Charlton who ran out winners with Jackson's world class free-kick the difference between the two sides. Roll on Hartlepool.

Shez.

Up the Owls!
