Match PreviewIt's FA Cup time again and the prize for the winner of this game lies in the shape of Premier League side Everton at Goodison Park.
Wednesdayite.com match previewer Ricky Charlesworth previews the Owls v Blackpool FA Cup 4th Round replay which takes place on Tuesday 7th February 2012 with a 7.45pm kick off.
OWLS v BLACKPOOL
Tuesday Feb 7
Hillsborough
7:45pm KO
LOWDOWN
Wednesday welcome Blackpool to S6 for an unwanted replay after they were denied at the death in the previous meeting ten days ago. The Owls head into this televised clash knowing that a congested fixture pile-up awaits if they can beat Ian Holloway’s men.
Victory on Tuesday night against the Tangerines will see the Owls travel to Goodison Park to face Everton in the last 16 of the Cup. Despite being an attractive proposition, it would mean an extra game to cram into what is already looking like a hectic end of season schedule. This game is also the third straight midweek match for the Owls with another two league encounters hot on the heels in the next seven days after.
Blackpool will arrive in S6 for the second time this season after the two sides met in a tepid goalless Carling Cup tie back in August. That night, depleted teams were fielded by both sides with Wednesday prospering thanks to a penalty shootout in front of the TV cameras.
This time around, the stakes are undoubtedly higher with the trip to David Moyes side a much bigger reward than entry into the second round of the league Cup.
TEAM NEWS
Daniel Jones remains Wednesday’s only injury concern whilst Rob Jones has not played a part since the original tie at Bloomfield Road. In defence, Jon Otsemobor is likely to make way for Lewis Buxton, whilst Miguel Llera and Danny Batth should not see their centre-back partnership disturbed.
In midfield, Wednesday are set to find out whether John Bostock is eligible for the tie, so Chris Lines is waiting in the wings. Up front, it looks a straight choice of two from four, from Chris O’Grady, Gary Madine, Ryan Lowe and Clinton Morrison.
PROBABLE LINE-UP
Bywater;
Buxton, R Jones, Batth, R Johnson;
J Johnson, Lines, Semedo, Prutton;
O’Grady, Lowe/Madine
KEY MAN
Matt PHILLIPS – the flashy winger has already smashed in 15 this season, including two hat-tricks and will be the one to watch at Hillsborough.
Up the Owls
