Light shines on for Sheffield Wednesday

SWFC NewsSlightly older supporters will recall the memories of travelling along Leppings Lane at night to be greated by the welcoming blue-neon lights that told you where you were: SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY.
Iconic for many, the famous neon lights were switched off several years ago as our cash-strapped club, and the previous regime, apparently sought to save on maintenance costs.

Many thought that the bulbs had died, or indeed that the whole signage had stopped working and it has been with a heavy heart that supporters passed the unlit dullness of the West Stand on their twilight journeys since.
In reality, it appears that just a broken transformer needed replacing to get the sign up and running again.
As just one of several key improvements taking place around Hillsborough before the start of the new season, tonight the transformer was replaced and the lights fired up to once again shine out the name of Sheffield Wednesday to passers-by - and it is hoped the sign will continue to shine for some time to come.
Planning and implementation of works around the ground has already begun and the repair of the neon sign is just the start of a very busy summer for club staff.
Budgets for such developments are still relatively slim as funds are directed into improving the playing squad for next season, however officials have long been prioritising works that can and will take place before next season's kick off.
We're told the re-lighting of the neons is just the start of these works and look forward to seeing other improvements throughout the close-season.
