South Yorkshire football managers back Sheffield England 2018 bidSWFC News
On the eve of Sheffield Wednesday's season opener against local side Barnsley at Hillsborough, supporters of both teams are urged to get behind Sheffield's bid to be a World Cup 2018 host city.

Both the Owls and Barnsley will tomorrow be involved in promoting the city's bid to be a host venue - with the emphasis on getting supporters to register their votes towards the bid.

Barnsley's backing of the Sheffield bid comes on the heels of last Monday's Football Heaven Live event where managers of all the South Yorkshire teams threw their weight behind the city's quest to be a World Cup 2018 Host City.

Simon Davey, Sean O’Driscoll, John Sheridan and Mark Robins joined Sheffield managers Kevin Blackwell and Brian Laws in promoting the 'Sheffield 2018 - Back the Bid' campaign.

Speaking at the Football Heaven event, Brian Laws, Sheffield Wednesday Manager said: "It’s vital that World Cup games come to Sheffield so that we can all benefit. Whichever team gets to host it, it’ll be great for the city and that’s the most important thing."

Kids back Sheffield's Host City bid for 2018 World CupTomorrow's promotion of the bid will be focused on getting everyone in the expected crowd of around 30,000 supporters to get online and register their vote for Sheffield, who are facing stiff competition from a further 14 cities to host some of the World Cup games.

Sheffield Wednesday's giant 'Back the Bid' ball will be at Hillsborough stadium and supporters of both clubs will parade the web address of the 'Back the Bid' campaign in front of the crowd to urge you to get online and show your support for Sheffield.

If you have not yet registered your vote for Sheffield, you can do so online now at the official England 2018 website at www.england2018bid.com - all supporters are encouraged to back the bid as soon as possible.
