Wednesdayite Statement on The Departure of Brian Laws. 13th December 2009.
The news that Brian Laws and his coaching staff have now left ft the club was received with sadness and regret.
We would like to thank Brian Laws for the work he has done over the past three years, for the way he has conducted himself and particularly for the relationship he developed with the fans. Brian will be remembered for the successes he has given us, notably the Steel City Double, for which we will be forever grateful. We will also remember him forĀ standing by his principles in the dark days. We wish him all the very best for the future.
The Wednesdayite Board have acknowledged the excellent work put in by Lee Strafford and Nick Parker over the last year. Their approach has led to a much better relationship between the club and its fans. The SWFC Board has maintained an excellent relationship with the Co-op bank. Lee and Nick have looked to build contacts within the local community and to create a common ethos where all stake holders want to pull together for the common good. The staff at the club, in the administrative, catering, retail and other sectors are working hard to create the conditions conducive to investment.
It has been a matter of growing concern recently that progress made off the pitch has not been matched by the results on the pitch and that commercial initiatives have been hampered by poor performances and match results. The pressure on the playing side has been growing match by match and it was obvious that action needed to be taken to produce improvements on the pitch.
It is important now that all of us who wish to be part of our club - fans, backroom staff and players, should deliver our share of what is required to bring success.
The Wednesdayite Board retain faith and trust in what Lee Strafford and Nick Parker are trying to achieve. In these difficult times we must trust them to make the correct decisions for the long term interests and stability of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.
