Wednesdayite Present Cheque to The Children’s Hospital

£1,000 ChequeThe Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Society, Wednesdayite presented a cheque to The Children’s Hospital, Sheffield towards The BBC Sheffield Kids’ Scanner Appeal at the recent Owls game against Derby County on Saturday 20th March.
Wednesdayite’s successful charity fund raising efforts over the last few months included a Coast to Coast bike ride from Grange-Over-Sands to Filey in September 2009 and also Phil King’s charity social evening (including race night) in January of this year.
The efforts, generosity and time of Phil King, David Hirst, John Beresford, our volunteers and everyone who donated at these events meant that we were able to hand over a cheque for £1,000 towards the Hospital’s target of half a million pounds for a new, state-of-the-art CT scanner.
Wednesdayite Director’s Peter Shaw and Richard Davies along with Owls legend David Hirst presented the cheque to Simon Athey, Senior Fundraiser for The Children’s Hospital, on the pitch before the Derby match.
At the cheque presentation, Simon Athey, said “We are extremely grateful to Wednesdayite members for their continued support over the last season. Ever since we launched our special partnership with the club we have we overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of both the club and its supporters for our cause.
“Thanks to everyone involved in raising this fantastic total and I’m delighted you’re not stopping there , but many of you are joining us for our zip slide challenge in the spring.”
Wednesdayite Director Richard Davies commented: “It was an absolute pleasure raising money for such a worthwhile local charity, which has helped many young children around our region and touched the hearts of so many in undertaking its invaluable work.”
Wednesdayite will be looking to support The Children’s Hospital at other opportunities and events in the future.
During both of the events mentioned above we also raised substantial funds for the Sheffield Wednesday community fund and we will be making an announcement about that money raised in the near future.

The zip slide challenge will take place between 9.00am and 4.30pm on Sunday 25 April 2010 and will give participants the chance to zip slide from the back of the Kop and across the pitch to the Leppings Lane end.
A £25 registration fee reserves your place and then the charity asks that each person taking part raise a minimum of £75 in sponsorship. Participants must be over the age of 18 and a full list of terms and conditions can be found on the charity’s website.
