Following an initiative by Peter Shaw, Senior Vice Chairman of The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters' Society, Wednesdayite, Young Owls and Children everywhere are being encouraged to improve their reading skills.

Inspired by Sheffield Wednesday's community focus and the partnership with The Children's Hospital, Sheffield, Peter has teamed up with author Andy Spong to produce the new book 'Max and the Suspicious Green Gooey Thing'.

For each copy sold £1 will be donated to The Children's Hospital Charity and a further £1 will go to Wednesdayite's Smile Tickets scheme which is aimed at providing match tickets for underprivileged supporters.

Aimed at children aged between 9 and 15, the book used language and structure designed to challenge a young reader and improve their reading and literacy skills.

Whilst there are certain references to Sheffield Wednesday in the book, the authors purposefully decided to keep a non-football theme in order to broaden the appeal of the stories.

"The little character, Max, is a loveable-rogue of a dog that gets into all kinds of adventures" explained Peter Shaw.  "Each chapter is a self contained story in order to give less confident readers a sense of achievement, whilst the whole book is interlinked with fun characters and humour to keep children captivated."

Simon Athey, senior fundraiser at The Children's Hospital Charity, said "We are really grateful to Peter for supporting the charity in this way.  Since we started our special relationship with Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, Wednesdayite have held various fundraisers for us and it's lovely to see another member, yet again, supporting the hospital and our young patients."

Max and the Suspicious Green Goey Thing is available now at £6.95 in the Owls megastore and at the Sheffield Wednesday Online Shop.

£1 of each sale in donated to The Children's Hospital Charity and a further £1 to Wednesdayite's Smile Tickets scheme.
