David BlunkettStatement from David Blunkett - dated 7th September 2010. "Blunkett responds to events at Sheffield Wednesday"
Rt Hon David Blunkett, MP for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough, has issued a statement in response to the events at Sheffield Wednesday FC.
Mr Blunkett said: “A great deal of movement has been achieved over the last 24 hours, involving an enormous amount of hard work by chairman Howard Wilkinson, chief executive Nick Parker and key personnel in the Co-operative Bank.
“I have been supporting and facilitating discussions between them – including liaising directly with HM Revenue & Customs, who have been very patient in these difficult circumstances.
“I am hopeful that it will be possible to find a way forward which not further deteriorate the standing and financial position of the club, but which will provide us with a breathing space to continue the rigorous financial appraisal which Howard and Nick have been undertaking. I hope that it will also secure the investment which the fans have been patiently waiting for.
“I am pleased to continue doing my best, both as the local MP and as the president of Wednesdayite, to ensure that the best interests of fans and the long-term well-being of the club are uppermost in everything we do.”

We are very grateful for the hard work and commitment that you (David B),Howard and Nick are doing for the club. Its a shame that the "old timers", Cooke, Grierson and Hulley have been allowed to get away with putting us in this dire situation.
