Save Darlo!

Darlington FCDARLINGTON FC

Little over a year ago, our beloved Owls were on the very brink - literally a judge's gavel away from being placed into liquidation following the financial mismanagement of the club meaning we could not pay our liabilities to HMRC.

We all know that in our case there was a happy ending, as Milan Mandarić rescued us and put our financial woes behind us. But we were amongst the (very) lucky ones - and currently another great name in the history of football is teetering on the edge of non-existence.

Darlington FC yesterday stared down the barrel of the end to 128 years existence and were only given a stay of execution at the thirteenth hour when - after the administrator had already sacked all the playing and coaching staff and announced that the club would go into liquidation - a group consisting of the Darlington Football Club Rescue Group (DFCRG), the Darlington Supporters Trust and the Darlo Supporters club, together with an anonymous backer, produced adequate funds to allow the club to continue to operate for another month - and allow the potential new investor chance to do due diligence.

However, it really is only a stay of execution - the club has no Plan B should this last-minute 'rescue' fail.

We at Wednesdayite are sure all Owls fans would not only recognise the sense of despair and fear of the loss of something we hold so dear, but also stand shoulder-to-shoulder with another member of the football family in their hour of need. All our best wishes are with Darlo - and indeed Owlsalive's own Beastie is leading a detachment of Wednesday fans who will be heading up to Darlington to swell the gate numbers on the 28th January whilst the Owls are away at the sold-out Blackpool match, with a collection of donations for the club.

If you can let me have some details of that, would try and bring 3 or 4. Be a brilliant gesture.

Good stuff

See you up there.

Dave,
All we're doing is turning up and if they need help with anything offering our services. From what I've read they may need help with stewarding, collections etc. whatever...if they turn out to be fully manned and don't need us, they can have our ticket money through the turnstiles and our support during the game.

FAO Andrew

Hi Andrew

Anything we can do to help as part of the Football Family. As SWFC fans we went through something similar 13months ago, so can empathise with you.

Good luck,
Rich.

Big Thankyou

An exiled Yorkshireman living in Darlo-SWFC season ticket holder. On behalf of my mates and in-laws sincere thanks for the great gestures of support from Owls fans-tremendous. Anyone who can get through on the 28th would be very warmly welcomed-any donations of any value (a quid would be brilliant) to their paypal account will go to paying players wages for the next three games.Thanks-football is for the people.

Travelling support.

Hi all,

I get paid next week and i will send a donation to Darlo. I will also rally my friends up to come up to the home game on the 28th of January.

Im sure if we can turn out in thousand for SWFC week in week out at home and away we can do this just to help a club in need out. I remember going to Darlington delivering promotional brochures a few years back and its was a wonderful place to be. Im gutted at how things have changed in that time smilies/sad.gif

Spotted a few Wednesday shirts high up in the West stand (if it was your guys). Again thanks for your support and hopefully we will get through this nightmare.
