"Historically this biking thing runs in the family, my Father once cycled from Rotherham to Skegness and back in a day for a bet. He posted a postcard in Skeggy as proof.
Some may be aware of my previous involvement 3 years ago when I returned from the World Cup in Germany and almost straight away joined a charity ride from lands end to John O’Groats. I joined at Keswick and lasted 4 days before being told by a paramedic to go home and rest. Well to be honest my preparation again could have been better but this time I have a clear solid strategy; Pedal on the flat, free wheel down hills and get of and walk up any serious hills.
I am also hoping for better luck on the puncture front. Whilst Guy & Nick had gone a full week without any punctures in 2006 I on the other hand had 3 - yes three - within 2 miles of Penrith Station on the way to meet them at Keswick!
Another tactic I intend employing will be to get into Hirsty or Kingy’s slip stream.
We have already decided on our next charity venture which will be to visit ALL 92 league clubs and try and break the current world record of 72 hours.
However back to the C 2 C and we shall ALL laugh our way from the irish to the north sea as there are a few characters on board and no doubt a few drinks will flow in the evenings to numb the aches and pains. Stories told should fill a book and by the time we reach Filey many more of the 3 days spent huffing and puffing over the pennines and moors, up hill and down dale (free wheeling of course).
I have mentioned to the Wednesdayite dudes about the hare and the tortoise, hence I will be steering clear of any German helmets. One particular rider fears only a head-long wind, but perhaps there may be more than just that kind of obstacle before the end of the week."
