3 days to go now and our auction winner, Steve Ludlam, opens up with his blog.

Steve successfully outbid other Wednesdayite’s to win a place on the opening day of the ride with a last ditch bid of £97.35.

"I am Steve Ludlam, resident of Crookes and I teach politics at the University of Sheffield.

I've been a Hillsborough regular since 1990 with my sons Joe and Thomas, and am a season ticket holder on the Kop.

I grew up in Pompey in the 1950s and '60s, which prepared me well for life in the lower divisions remembering the glory years (something John Beresford must be getting used to)!

So I am over the proverbial moon to be able to ride with legends of Wednesday's glory years, and for such good causes.

I am a regular cyclist, but at 58 don't expect to be able to keep up with Hirsty and Kingy in the sprints, or in the bar.

This is a brilliant initiative by Wednesdayite and right in line with the club's drive to revive its place in community life.

I really hope people will get behind the lads, which I will be, by a mile or two!

Steve"

Good Luck Steve! Hope you've got a good granny gear to help you up the hills so you can make it to the bar with the rest.

GO BRO! May I suggest you add Climb Every Mountain and the theme to Sound of Music to your ipod playlist. They work for me up Portsdown Hill, which is only a pimple compared to your mountains, but nevertheless......

If you get a chance to speak to Beresford, thank him for a wonderful 1992 and it was me that threw the pie!

Good Luck Steve, what fun I wish I was doing it with you.
I played "It's impossible" by Perry Como when I did London to Brighton and when I got to Beacon Hill, old Perry was spot on!!!!! Gary said to say to Beresford thanks for wonderful warm up on the pitch in 1982 it was very enjoyable to watch!!!!
Hope you have a fab couple of days, at least you wont need the puncture repair kit, as Joe's not with you!!!
HAVE FUN

Love Sally xxxxx

Give them hell Dad. I've got no doubt you can keep up on a bike, you've got your work cut out in the bar though. At 58 you can't have both.

having cycled with the group for a (very fast! - ave. 33mph!!!) 7 mile spell as they were passing close to my home yesterday, I can say clearly to Steve that...

You're one hell of a sprinter! Age is no bar!

Great to have met you and cycled with you, and congratulations on being part of such a great event!

Hi Steve

Keep up the good work and keep those legs moving. If you are feeling fit keep going after Thursday and see if you can raise enough money to keep the mighty saint going!

Be fair Tim,you can't expect Steve to circ*mnavigate the globe 500 times----and even that may not be enough to save the ****.

True Dave but 500 times round is butter then the 1000 it will need to keep Pompey going!

Well done Steve it sounds as though you had a great time. Not sure my legs or backside would have been able to take all that effort. Not quite the same view sitting behind a desk returning to normality but some great memories and a deed well done. See you soon. Tim
