In a new series of blogs to Wednesdayite.com each Director on the current board will be writing a blog to enlighten everyone what their own role within Wednesdayite actually entails.

Third up in the series is Director Diane Cockayne, who looks after Smile Tickets and distributing them to people who otherwise wouldn't be able to get to the match.

A typical week for me involves receiving phone calls from a variety of parents, grandmas uncles and aunties all wondering whether there are any Smile tickets available for their little 'un and family to watch the Owls.

As I'm usually at work when the phone rings, my work colleagues have had to get used to listening to one sided conversations about our lack of goals, problems in the defence and how Darren Purse has improved no end since Alan arrived!

On the Thursday before a match I contact SWFC to ask whether there are any spare wheelchair spaces for members who need to use this facility. I also make last minute counts to make sure I've not double booked or have tickets left over.  I sometimes have spare tickets for night matches and phone a Wednesdayite member who is a teacher at a local school and who is able to distribute tickets to students as prizes.  Sadly I also have spare tickets at times as a result of a child becoming ill once more and being unable to attend.

More recently I have had to turn down many requests for tickets as the word has spread further around the Children's Hospital, and some matches have been 'booked up' for several weeks!

On a matchday morning I make a last check, phone parents I haven't spoken to for some time to ensure they are still able to come, and parcel up the tickets trying to make sure family groups sit together as far as possible. Then its off to the Wednesdayite Car Park to hand them over and wish everyone an enjoyable time and a Wednesday win!
Diane.
