Wednesdayite Programme Notes v Leicester City
Written by Richard Davies Saturday, 06 March 2010 18:00
For those of you who don't get the match day programme, The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Society, Wednesdayite will be publishing their programme notes on Wednesdayite.com after each home game.
These notes are from Nigel Pearson's return to Hillsborough for the Owls v Leicester City game which took place on Saturday 6th March 2010.
The Wednesdayite Discussion Meeting, 25 February 2010
The 1867 Lounge at SWFC was the venue for our Forward Together - A Year On discussion meeting at which Lee Strafford talked about the past year and then about the current situation at S6. The supporters (Wednesdayite members and others) who attended the open meeting were then able to put questions to Lee for nearly two hours.
The obvious topics were covered - the current league position, what steps are being taken to get the Owls out of the relegation zone, and the latest position in the search for investment. We were told that negotiations on investment are still on-going even if they are now slowed down by complications. There is a lot of caution with the finances of football clubs at this time as recent happenings elsewhere have shown.
The changes at SWFC off the pitch have made the structure of the club a fundamentally better one. Embracing the fans and the community, especially the link with the Children's Hospital, provides a source of pride in the club we support. The first of these meetings with fans a year ago, now this latest one and others in between, have shown those changes taking place. Whatever view is taken about individual issues, supporters are now able to ask questions, have them listened to and answered. We can raise concerns, receive responses and get changes made. As I said at the meeting, I am sure that we do not want to see the internal workings of our club go back to what they were like two years ago when there seemed to be a barrier between the club and its community of fans.
Of course we are all anxious about our current league position. We have every reason to be so, especially after the result at Reading. We will all be hoping for much better today. But we must not give up. We should all be working together - the SWFC Boardroom and backroom staff, the football management, the players and the supporters. Everyone on that list needs to make it very loud, very clear and very obvious that we are ALL working together for our club in the forthcoming games and beyond.
Wednesdayite Board Elections
It will soon be time to start the election process for the Wednesdayite Board ready for our AGM in the summer. We would like to encourage anyone who is interested in getting involved with us in the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Society and who has some time to spare, to think about standing for election. If you want to know a bit more about what is involved, why not come into the Wednesdayite Lounge at the Niagara before the next home match and talk to us. Alternatively, there are Wednesdayite directors at our car park on match days, so you could give them your contact details and we will get in touch.
