Wednesdayite Programme Notes v Sheffield United
Last Updated on Tuesday, 27 April 2010 21:39
For those of you who don't get the match day programme, The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Society, Wednesdayite will be publishing their programme notes on Wednesdayite.com after each home game.
Here are our notes are from the Steel City Derby which took place at Hillsborough on Sunday 18th April 2010.
Something to Smile About Next Season
Many of you will be aware that Wednesdayite have been distributing Match day tickets for all the Owls Coca Cola Championship games at Hillsborough this season. Over £3500 was raised last summer from generous Owls fans who donated into our Smile Tickets fund following appeals on the Owls Fans Message Boards.
With the help of SWFC, we were able to use this money to buy 21 season tickets in the North Stand which were then converted into match day tickets. Wednesdayite director Diane Cockayne liaised with The Children's Hospital, Sheffield and other community organisations to provide over 400 individual match day experiences. That’s at least 400 fans and potential fans who would not otherwise have been able to watch the Owls and experience a day out at Hillsborough.
Diane reports that the largest single group of recipients have been Children’s Hospital patients and their families, followed by local school children, youngsters playing for the Owls Trust All Stars teams based in Darnall, children from local care homes and those of parents who have been unfortunately struck down by illness or infirmity and who cannot now afford to bring their families and kids along to Hillsborough.
We would like to repeat this hugely successful activity next season and so we are asking as many of you as possible, who can afford to, to help us raise enough to renew our block of season tickets. Please help us to bring some smiles to deserving folk - existing fans and new members of the Owls community.
You can donate through Paypal by following the link on our web site, or you can contact us by email or by phone (details below) to arrange for us to receive your donations.
More Elections?
Yes, it is that time again - but for us it happens annually. It is time to start the process of electing the members of the Wednesdayite Board. As usual, we have directors who have completed their term of office who must therefore stand for re-election if they wish to continue. We also have other vacancies to fill.
By the time you read this, we will have started the process of setting up our independent Election Management Group who will oversee the process for collecting nominations and then arranging any necessary ballot.
If you have some time and energy to spare and you would like to be involved in helping our organisation to develop, then please think about standing for election to the board. If you are interested, email us at
