Last Updated on Tuesday, 04 May 2010 22:54
For those of you who don't get the match day programme, The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Society, Wednesdayite will be publishing their programme notes on Wednesdayite.com after each home game.
Here are our notes are from the Owls v Crystal Palace game which took place on Sunday 2nd May 2010.
Noise and Passion
So we come to the last match and our fate is in our own hands. Let's hope we will be supporting the team in the Championship next season but whatever happens we would like to praise the support that our fans have given to the Owls, especially those who travel regularly to away matches and make up the 'Barmy Army'.
Football should be all about the relationship between clubs and supporters. Our travelling fans have shown what they can put into that relationship. The noise and passion at Cardiff last week was awesome from start to finish. Our fans were applauded out of the stadium by the Cardiff fans! Let us have this kind of support here today with the Noise turned up and the Passion on display from everyone today and next season.
A Novel Idea!
Supporters' Trusts around the country are constantly looking for ways to support their club and raise funds for associated charities. Peter Shaw, Senior Vice Chairman of Wednesdayite, is involved with a novel idea to support the club in this way.
Peter has been helping to produce a book called 'Max and the Suspicious Green Gooey Thing', He has acted as literary consultant, advising on language, structure, age appropriateness and story lines.
The book is about a dog called Max who lives on the barge 'Hillsborough Owl' and has a series of adventures although it is not a football related book. The book uses humour, simple stories lines but with challenging language. It is aimed at children between the ages of 9/10 through to 14/15 who may be demotivated and reluctant but potentially capable readers. The book has a 12 chapters with each chapter being a short story in itself so that children will feel a sense of accomplishment on completion of each one. The stories are interlinked by using the same characters throughout.
Football clubs throughout the land now encourage their young players who come through the academy to continue their education. The SWFC Chairman hopes that Hillsborough Stadium will host the biggest classroom in the country in future years. We are attempting to support the educational aim by encouraging the development of reading and literacy skills.
The plan is for the book to go on sale in May at a retail price of £6.95. For every book sold, £1 will be donated to The Children's Hospital, Sheffield and £1 will be donated to Wednesdayite with this money being ring-fenced for Smile Tickets and for a fund we have set up to purchase a mini-bus for use by our disabled supporters. Details about retail and on-line purchasing will be posted on the Wednesdayite website and elsewhere.
Please try and support this 'novel' initiative and by doing so support deserving local charities and causes. And Don't forget our Smile Ticket Appeal.
