For those of you who don't get the match day programme, The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Society, Wednesdayite publish their programme notes on Wednesdayite.com after each home game
Here are our notes for the Owls' Pre-Season Friendly Leeds United which took place at Hillsborough on Saturday 23rd July 2011.
Wednesdayite Gearing Up For The New Season
While the Wednesday squad probably think that the pre-season is a tough time, our view at Wednesdayite is that they don’t know they’re born! It’s been a busy summer at Wednesdayite HQ, with our energies very much going towards improving and building on our successful member services from last season.
We have agreed a long-term lease with landowners Tesco for the Wednesdayite car park, which means that we can continue to offer matchday parking right across from the ground for both members and non-members alike. With some new security barriers imminent and a long-term plan to improve the site, we are confident that fans will flock to purchase one of our Car Park Season Tickets - £75 for the year, valid for ALL home games in all competitions, and available at wednesdayite.com!
Speaking of online purchases, we have also rolled out our much-improved online store for everything Wednesdayite – you can buy coach and event tickets, parking permits and even membership online, and print out your tickets at home to bring to the match. We are confident that this will make it even easier to get involved with the great stuff that Wednesdayite offers to Owls fans!
Our Wednesdayite Lounge also returns for matchdays this season, with free entry to all Wednesdayite members (£1 guests). With the sad closure of the Travellers pub, the Wednesdayite Lounge at the Niagara Club, Niagara Road (behind Burger King on the Penistone Road/Leppings Lane roundabout) is now second only to the legendary Park Hotel for the title of closest pub to the ground! With big screen Sky TV, fine food and cheap drinks, not to mention a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere, it’s the essential pre-match ritual for all Owls!
The trials and tribulations of last season saw some of our popular regular events fall by the wayside, and we have worked hard to ensure that we have got some special attractions lined up for the coming season to make up for it! Our First Wednesday regular events, held on the first Wednesday of each month, will include quiz nights, Owls legends Q&As and much much more besides – put the dates in your diary now!
Finally, our Away Coach team have managed to secure the services of two suppliers to offer luxury coach travel to every away match of the season (subject to demand) – and even have something special planned for the Steel City Derby at Bramall Lane – watch this space! We also hope to offer an end-of-season thank you to our valued regular travellers who have made the journey up and down the country to cheer on the mighty Owls to what will hopefully be a fantastic season.
The above represent our core member services – but there is another massively successful part of our operation that returns for the new season – and one that needs your help to make an even bigger success in 2011/12! Smile Tickets is an excellent community scheme aimed at providing matchday tickets and a chance to come to Hillsborough for sick and disadvantaged Owls fans throughout Sheffield and the wider area. It has been supported by our wonderful fans through small and large donations over the past few seasons, and just as crucially supported by the club with generous offers to help us to maximise the benefit to fans who deserve help. We are asking for a similar level of support from fans in the coming season and are also asking for the club’s continued support to make the Smile programme another real way that SWFC and its fans are benefitting the community! You can donate online at wednesdayite.com, in person when you come into the Wednesdayite Lounge or by visiting the Wednesdayite portakabin at the ground every match.
Here at Wednesdayite we can’t wait for the new season – let’s all pull together and make sure it’s a brilliant one both on and off the pitch.
Up The Owls,
Wednesdayite
