For those of you who don't get the match day programme, The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Society, Wednesdayite publish their programme notes on Wednesdayite.com after each home game
To start the new 2011-12 season here are our notes for the Owls' opening League One game against Rochdale which took place at Hillsborough on Saturday 6th August 2011.
Welcome To The New Season From Wednesdayite!
From the conversations we’ve had with our over 4,000 Facebook fans and nearly as many Twitter followers, we’re guessing that the summer break seems to have lasted far too long for most Wednesdayites! Well, those days are gone now, because the new season is upon us! The new campaign is an exciting prospect for all Owls, and here at Wednesdayite we’re just as excited about what we have to offer members and the wider SWFC fanbase as we start what will hopefully be a brilliant season on and off the pitch!
We have agreed a long-term lease with landowners Tesco for the Wednesdayite Car Park, which means that we can continue to offer matchday parking right across from the ground for both members and non-members alike. Our Wednesdayite Lounge at the Niagara Club also returns for matchdays this season, with free entry to all Wednesdayite members (£1 guests). Our First Wednesday regular events, held on the first Wednesday of each month, will include quiz nights, Owls legends Q&As and much much more besides – put the dates in your diary now! And finally, our Away Coach team have managed to secure the services of two suppliers to offer luxury coach travel to every away match of the season (subject to demand) – and even have something special planned for the Steel City Derby at Bramall Lane – watch this space!
For more on our services and to find out how you can save £120+ this season by becoming a Wednesdayite member, check out our website at www.wednesdayite.com!
Wednesdayite, A Reason to SMILE
Since June 2006, Wednesdayite have been actively involved in developing a new and very exciting fund raising scheme to help deserving fans in the local community.
Wednesdayite Smile Tickets aims to award free match tickets to deserving people in our local community in two very simple ways:
• Local community groups and disadvantaged fans can apply for Wednesdayite Smile Tickets so they can enjoy watching a game of football which perhaps they would otherwise be unable to enjoy.
• Fans can nominate individuals or groups for a special “Wednesdayite Smile Ticket Treat” as a means of acknowledging hard work, selfless acts and devotion in the local community – this could be anything from cleaning up litter to helping an elderly person in the neighbourhood.
Wednesdayite and the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme will work together in 2011 getting tickets to the most deserving causes. All the money donated by fans to Wednesdayite’s Smile Ticket Fund will be spent at SWFC to purchase Match day and Season Tickets. This gives the club a direct benefit from the additional revenue of ticket sales.
Wednesdayite Director Marc Duffy said “We are delighted to continue our hugely successful SMILE scheme for the 2011/12 season, linking up with the Clubs own community programme will enable us to offer even more good causes a chance to watch Wednesday. The number of tickets we can purchase is only limited by continued donations from generous Sheffield Wednesday supporters”.
If you want to find out more about Wednesdayite Smile Tickets, offer help in fundraising through a sponsored event or to make a donation please visit http://www.wednesdayite.com/smile (if you wish to apply for tickets please also visit the website above).
Here at Wednesdayite we can’t wait for the new season – let’s all pull together and cheer the lads on to glory!
Up the Owls!
