Wednesdayite Programme Notes v Blackpool (League Cup)
Last Updated on Monday, 15 August 2011 09:48
For those of you who don't get the match day programme, The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Society, Wednesdayite publish their programme notes on Wednesdayite.com after each home game
Below are our notes for the Owls' League Cup tie against Blackpool which took place at Hillsborough on Thursday 11th August 2011.
Ben’s SMILE Story
The last game in May at the end of the season saw Wednesdayite give a special day to a very special young boy.
Eight-year-old Ben O’Brien has bone cancer affecting his left knee and shin. Ben was diagnosed with this aggressive form of cancer after his mum noticed that he was passing up playing his beloved football due to pain in his leg.
This condition unfortunately meant Ben missed much school and the chance to see his classmates and carry on doing the things every young boy loves. Wednesdayite gave young Ben the chance to bring his whole class to watch the Owls take on Exeter and – even more importantly - a chance to catch up with his schoolmates away from school and away from the hospital.
Ben accepted the offer; he brought his entire class and all his friends - we even bought more tickets with kind help from Brian our USA Owl!
Wednesdayite were delighted to offer Ben a SMILE Experience. What’s more, we extend an open SMILE invitation to Ben and his family whenever they can get to Hillsborough.
This is just one story over one game, in one season. We have delivered over one thousand SMILE Experiences to disadvantaged people. But we can only continue this good work with support from our incredible fan base.
Thank you to those who have donated already – if you haven’t, then please read on and help us to give a special memory to many more kids like Ben.

Make August SMILE Month With Wednesdayite!
Since 2006, Wednesdayite’s SMILE scheme aims to award free match tickets to disadvantaged and deserving people in our local community. We work with the club’s Community Programme to identify and give tickets out every match for the entire season!
We have made August SMILE Month – already we have raised over £1,000 for the SMILE scheme and we are asking for Owls fans to take part in our SMILE fundraising events – both at the match and online – throughout the month so that we can buy the largest possible amount of tickets to give to deserving fans.
Donate today at Wednesdayite.com/smile and get free entry into our draw to win a signed 2011/12 SWFC shirt – every donor will go into the hat for this great prize!
If you want to find out more about Wednesdayite Smile Tickets, offer help in fundraising through a sponsored event or to make a donation please visit www.wednesdayite.com/smile (if you wish to apply for tickets please also visit the website).
