WEDNESDAYITE WEEKLY

DERBY DAY: A GREAT SUCCESS!

Car ParkPORK'N'RIDE

Whether you were one of the four thousand Owls who travelled to Bramall Lane on Sunday to cheer on the Owls or whether you were one of the close on 11,000 who witnessed it at the brilliant Hillsborough Beamback, the 2-2 draw was a match to remember!

For the first time Wednesdayite ran their special Park & Ride service direct to the turnstiles at Bramall Lane, ensuring that two hundred Owls fans got to and from the match safely, in comfort and without any of the stresses of previous visits to play our neighbours. The atmosphere before we set off was good enough, with fans mingling and enjoying a bacon butty as part of the service – but the journey back from the Lane with fellow Owls parping their horns and showing their joy at the performance of the Comeback Kings will live in the memory forever!

Thanks to Linburg's coaches, South Yorkshire Police and of course the club for their part in making the service such a success!

Some of the feedback from Owls fans:

"I would like to express my appreciation to everyone involved in making this happen. We had a really good day and instead of it being a headache, the travel and parking were part of the fun. Brilliant!" – Vivien Hambleton

"It started brilliantly - bacon butties and photos around the Megson banner. Got better as we sped off towards Bramall Lane being chased by police outriders – then surreal to arrive ten minutes later at an 'away' game! Thankyou Wednesday for making my long drive back to Norwich bearable, and thankyou to Wednesdayite for organising the P&R - brilliant. Can't wait for the next event!" – Rick the Norfolk Owl

"The journey back reminded me of the trip to Wembley - cars lined up all the way in to town on their way back from the beam back, sounding their horns, people hanging out of the windows and cheering as the coaches went past" – Paul Senior

WIN A UNIQUE, ONE-OF-A-KIND CANVAS - AND FIND OUT THE STORY BEHIND IT!

Vice-Chair EddieOWLS MEMORABILIA

Walk into the Owls Megastore and undoubtably the most striking products on sale are the SWFC official canvas collection of Wednesday legends past and present, as well as some stunning visions of the greatest place on Earth, our own wonderful Hillsborough Stadium. For SWFC memorabilia junkies like me, it's like manna from heaven, and I for one am excited to see and buy as many as possible from the Official SWFC Gallery at swfc.officialgallery.co.uk to go on my Wednesday Landing at home (which now covers not only the landing but most of the stairs too!).

All of the canvasses are made by the experts at Blue Strawberry Elephant, whose HQ is just down Penistone Road at the Globe Works on Shalesmoor - and to show the care and attention that goes into making these pieces, Dave from the company produced this brilliant photo story on the Official Gallery's Facebook page - look in awe at the attention to detail in making just one!

The story is a bit special though, as this particular panoramic canvas depicting Hillsborough from the West Stand has been donated by BSE to Wednesdayite for us to raise money for our SMILE campaign, which gives matchday experiences to sick or disadvantaged Wednesday fans. Thanks a million Dave - I hope you'll be pleased to know that we'll be raffling the canvas off at our upcoming First Wednesday Hirsty's Bar event - and the lucky winner will be able to get the signatures of SIX Wednesday strike legends on the canvas to make it even more special!

If you've not got your tickets for Hirsty's Bar yet, then there's still time - check out the advert below, and click on it to head to our online store and purchase tickets!

OWLS BLOG: SUPERSTITIONS, REMINISCENCES & QUARTERLY REPORT

Fan BlogSUPPORTER BLOG
We welcome Glyn Thornhill a brand new Owls Blogger to the line up this week.  So over to Glyn to introduce himself and his first blog.

"Let me introduce myself – NORTHWESTOWL - Glyn Thornhill a season ticket holder for 34 years. Born and raised in Sheffield..age 48...I have resided on the 'dark side' of the Pennines since the mid 1980's surrounded by Armchair Manchester United followers and passionate City supporters....so no such luxury as a home game. These come in the guise of Oldham, Bury and Rochdale respectively for me this season.

So with my credentials dealt with and ratified onwards with my first blog for Wednesdayite.

With the instant accessibility of technology at our fingertips for latest scores – I sometimes yearn for the mid 1970's and 1980's – SWFC were entrenched in league division 3. Not great football I hasten to add but a certain romance went hand in hand with football those days.

HALF TERM FUN & TERMTIME STUDIES WITH SWFC

The club this week launched two great initiatives that will be of interest to any Owls fan under the age of 18!

For the younger kids (5-14), Wednesday's Half-Term Soccer Camps are the perfect chance to hone your football skills and get the chance to have pro coaching, win trophies and even Owls merchandise! With camps at Middlewood Road, Greenhill School and Retford, there's chance for most Young Owls to get involved! Head here for further details.

For 16-18 year olds, there's the more serious business of Foundation Courses in both Sports and Activity Leadership, which the Owls Community Programme is offering in conjunction with sponsors LifeSkills. Check out the details here.

OWLS SHOW THEIR SPIRIT IN FACE OF WHINY BABIES GOING ON AND ON AND ON

The fallout from the incredible Owls comeback at Bramall Lane on Sunday continued with seemingly everyone connected with SUFC complaining about something or other, which achieved only two things: to show how together the SWFC squad and management team ar; and to show the world (again) what a classless bunch the Blades are.

Most notable was United captain Nick Montgomery (the self-proclaimed Premiership megastar), who took exception to Chris Lines' 'disrespectful' comments in the tunnel after the match...erm...by disrespecting him - calling him a League One clogger and saying that he had never played in front of a big crowd before. Not only did Gary Madine rush to his pal's aid on Twitter, but Owls manager Gary Megson pointed out that, by every statistic, Lines bossed Monty in the game and perhaps the Blunts' skipper should refrain from future public pronouncements. YOU MESS WITH ONE OF US, YOU MESS WITH US ALL!

All of this came after Wednesday legend Danny 'Agent' Wilson spent the 48 hours following the game moaning to anyone who would listen that Reda Johnson and Madine had fouled Blades keeper Steve Simonsen 17 times in the runup to the goal and that the referee was a small boy, not to mention the Blades' fanbase, who took to the internet to claim that the Opta Index was biased and that Wednesday's shots were 'not real shots', and that the equaliser was 'an own goal' rather than the eleventh of the season for the Goal Machine.

28,000 though. That's a good size attendance. Not MASSIVE, mind.
